Apple's iTunes store is the biggest music retailer in the world. While bands can't sell their music directly through iTunes, they can go to companies like CDBaby who can then represent them in iTunes. Commercially it might be not the best way to make money, however, it's good to use iTunes as a platform for promotion and distribution.
